Yahweh May Protect ( a tribute to my late friend, Jacob)

It was 2018 and i  stayed in North Delhi and met many awesome beings there who changed my life forever. Being there was a life-changing lesson for me. It was a God-given opportunity.

There I met this astounding person named Jacob at Church through a mutual friend. Well, I've known him for a really long time but we were never friends until we met in Delhi. I'd always thought of him as a schoolmate with a lil bit of attitude yet 2018 is the year that proved me completely wrong. I learned that he was actually the type of person who was always humble and never knew how to mistreat a single soul, not even one. In short, he was far better than who I thought he was.

 

Muanpuii, Jacob, Atei, Udama, and I used to hang out after Church, and soon enough, we became joking, laughing and ofc eating partners😂. We were always broke because we ate too much on Sundays but it was worth it. I really admire him because although he made many great friends there, he never failed to check on us and give us a good laugh. 

We laughed a lot this day 😂

He might be the only person I know that needed to be taught how to be less kind. I still remember me and Muanpuii scolded him because he was too kind to let others down that he seldom put his own happiness first. Even in those times, he would smile and said that it's okay. We were furious but when I look back now I realize how mature he was.

His 22nd Birthday🎂

We developed a really strange friendship from playing a Facebook game (Everwing) and my gosh, he was really competitive and never gave up so easily. Every time he saw me on the top of the leaderboard he would try his best to knock me off. That's pretty much how our friendship started and grew.

Oh! I almost forgot that he employed me as his photographer at DMZP Basketball Match 😂 and he bought me lunch and a Gatorade.

I used to take pictures of him with Snapchat cute filters without him knowing on Sundays. And once we all returned to our own places, I used to put it on my WhatsApp status and he would give me a good scolding for it as if he was my mom LOL.  Yes, he could be funny but he could also be such an amazing comforter and supporter. There was a time when I was really anxious due to my academic problems but was too embarrassed to tell anyone, Jacob noticed and asked me what's wrong. I then told him all about it but since he wasn't so good with words, he just simply said he could understand the storm I was going through and he told me that he would give me the meat that his family had sent him on my birthday if I could hold out pretty well. I am glad that God blessed me with a friend who could fathom even before I utter a word. Not all angels reside in Heaven, Jacob was an angel sent from above and I was lucky enough to meet him before God took him home.

On the night of 19th August 2018, we were trying to think of a new nickname for him to replace the old one 'Cobbler' and he came up with a new one 'Coby'. I looked up the meaning and it said 'Yahweh may protect'. He was of course happy with his new nickname. ///

Fast forward to 5th March 2019, I got a lot of missed calls from Udama and Atei the night before and I had no idea what was it about but then, they told me that God had sent for His angel. The pain of losing a faithful companion to death was kind of new to me to the point I was numb with shock. 

I asked God "why would He took him too soon" and He made me realize that he was never ours to begin with, he belonged to Heaven. God has been taking the good ones first and Jacob was one of them. Maybe the world was too hard on him that God decided to protect His angel by taking him home. One thing I didn't know was that Jacob is precious to God as much as he is to us. Even after he is gone, he goes on living in our hearts telling us to do what is right.

Oh, Heaven, each day must've been great since the day he arrived. If possible, remind him every day that it's been a lonely world without him here and if not, I guess we'd have to bear the pain until we meet him again.

And thinking about all these things made me realize that the nickname he gave himself really makes sense, 'Yahweh may protect'. Of course, you were always under Yahweh's protection, Coby.
